Program Description

Event Details

At the dawn of the 20th century, Ireland seemed securely a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. At the same time, the British Empire was at the peak of its global power and influence. By 1950, after two world wars and economic catastrophe, most of Ireland was an independent Republic and the British Empire was rapidly dissolving across the world. This talk will examine the question of how Ireland’s path to independence was shaped by overlapping crises – political chaos, world war, international upheaval – that enveloped the United Kingdom between 1910 and the 1940s.
